The Candy Smash

Candy Smash is the fourth installment of The Lemonade War series by Jacqueline Davies. It's Valentines Day in Jessie and Evan Treski's class. These two siblings have differing opinions of this particular holiday. Jessie thinks it's gross and Evan...well... Evan can see some merit to giving a pretty girl a Valentine! 

To understand this holiday better, Jessie does what she does best and starts investigating why people like it so much. She even starts a classroom paper that has in depth interviews with each student and a survey of who everyone likes. Jessie is shocked when this anonymous survey reveals that a boy likes HER! She's not sure what to do with this information, but like any good journalist, she publishes her results. What follows is a hilarious rush to see if the students can figure out who likes who before it's time to pass out the Valentines candy. 

This book focuses on journalist terms/vocabulary and how a paper is put together. It also includes poetry examples, vocabulary and explains how the beauty of poetry can be intoxicating. It also focuses on the humor that is young love and first crushes!
