One of my favorite things is when you find a new book and it looks interesting so you pick up and start reading. There is always that hesitation, at first, as you are getting to know the authors writing style, storyline, characters, etc. But when you get into the book and you can't put it down, you feel like you have found a new treasure for your library. That was my experience with Elizabeth Peters Crocodile on the Sandbank!
This is the first of twenty books in the Amelia Peabody mystery series and I'm so in love with it that I can't wait to read the next 19 books! Amelia Peabody is a woman of independent means in the 1880's. She is unmarried and has just lost her father. She is spunky, determined and incredibly intelligent. As a woman of independent means, she decided to head to Egypt to experience the culture and the local artifacts that can be found on a Nile Cruise. When she first arrives she rescues a half starved woman, Evelyn, who is running away from her low-life boyfriend. Amelia and Evelyn travel down the Nile and run into some very interesting people, most alive and some … dead... or at least Amelia and Evelyn hope the mummy is dead.
This was a FABULOUS start to this series. If you like the movies Indiana Jones or The Mummy, this will be right up your ally. I loved it so so very much and I hope you will, too.
Now, go and READ!
